Disneyland is embarking on one of its most dramatic overhauls in years. The DisneylandForward project, officially approved, will bring multiple new lands, rides, and revamps to the Anaheim resort — including an Avatar-themed land, the first ever ride based on Coco, a major expansion of Avengers Campus, and a Walt Disney animatronic show. These additions aim to refresh park experiences without increasing the park’s square footage, while also improving infrastructure and guest arrival through a new transportation hub.

What’s Coming: Key Attractions & Lands

Avatar-themed land in Disney California Adventure
This new land will explore Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and upcoming Avatar films. Groundbreaking inside part of the current Hollywood Backlot area is expected.

First-ever Coco ride
A boat attraction inspired by Coco will bring Miguel and the Land of the Dead to life with audio-animatronics and immersive design reminiscent of classic Disney dark rides. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

Expansion of Avengers Campus
The existing Avengers Campus will roughly double in size. New attractions include Avengers Infinity Defense, where guests help battle Thanos across iconic Marvel locations, and Stark Flight Lab, an interactive, tech-heavy ride experience.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Based on The Princess and the Frog, this ride has already opened in Disneyland (Nov 2024) and Magic Kingdom, transforming former Critter Country into “Bayou Country.”

Walt Disney – A Magical Life Show
A new show at the Main Street Opera House will feature an audio-animatronic figure of Walt Disney, giving guests a reflective, immersive look at his life and vision. It opened July 2025.
Supporting Infrastructure & Other Changes

New Transportation Hub & Parking Structure

• To handle guest flow, Disney plans a parking structure for ~6,000 vehicles, ride-share and security screening zones, and a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard. Expected construction around fall 2026.
• No net increase in park acreage
• Although many new attractions, lands, and experiences are coming, much of it involves reimagining or repurposing existing space rather than expanding the physical footprint of the parks

What’s Still Uncertain & When to Expect It

Many of the ride names, exact storylines, capacity, and specific openings are still in development. For example, the precise layout and timing of the Avatar land, the full scope of the Coco ride, and how Avengers Campus will balance new vs existing attractions are subject to change. Funding, city approvals, environmental impact, and construction timelines will play huge roles in if, when, and how these are built.
