Was Homecoming 2025 Brilliant or a Bust?

by Madison Horn | Oct. 22, 2025

On September 20, 2025, the Starry Night Homecoming took place. The Weekly Warrior talked to students and staff about their experience at this year’s homecoming.

The students and staff interviews were:

Student Council member Anya Zavala, Dean Ms. Orellana, Juliet Balyan, Mia Suarez, and Rory Caudillo have all been interviewed for this article.

Theme and Decor

What was your opinion on the theme of Homecoming 2025: Starry Night? What did you think of the decorations? Did they match the theme well and pull it all together?

Anya and Mia
The theme was good, it was pretty, but a little simple. Some decorations were good, but they could have done a lot more to make it look like The Starry Night.

Juliet
The theme itself was okay, but the decorations could have used a lot more effort. That and clarify the theme a bit more, the video was rather vague about whether the theme was a Van Gogh painting or actual stars in the sky.

Rory
Yeah, I thought the theme was pretty good, some of the decorations were cute, I just wish they did a little bit more to add to the theme. I did like the background for the photobooth, I thought it matched well.

Ms. Orellana
The theme was super cute; I liked the decorations and details for the things they hung up and the background for the photobooth.

Food and Service

How did you feel about the food? Were the available options good ones? How about the service? The lines?

Anya and Mia
The food was really good, and so was the service. The servers were very nice and the options available for food were good. We just wish the lines were managed a bit better, as they took forever; it hurts to stand there in heels.

Juliet
The food tasted good, I didn’t get much, but overall, the experience was pretty good. Those lines were a major setback, though.

Rory
I only had the fries, which were good, but the minute I saw the lines, I took off.

Ms. Orellana
The food was delicious, the tacos were wonderful, even if I had to wait longer to get the Carne Asada ones. The fries are always a hit. I wanted ice cream, but the line was long and not moving, and I had to get back to my post.

Music and the DJ

Did you like the music that was played? Do you think the student body should have more of a say in what music they play as long as it’s appropriate and censored?

Anya and Mia
Oof. The music. Where do we begin? Well, we used to listen to that music (when we were younger), but “Party in the U.S.A.” needs to go. We definitely think the student body should have more of a choice in what music is played. It would definitely be more relevant.

Juliet
Yikes. Not good. The DJ didn’t seem like he knew how to gather a crowd on the dancefloor. A lot of the music was less than desirable, and the empty floor showed that. Let the students decide the majority of the music.

Rory
I’m sick of hearing the same songs over and over again. It was the same thing as last year, and even fewer people danced this year. “Party in the U.S.A.” is just not it. It was a hit 10 years ago, not now. The students should absolutely have more say.

Ms. Orellana
For starters, the DJ was not doing his job as well as we had hoped. Definitely getting a new one for next year and Prom this year. The music itself was not very entertaining either. The kids don’t listen to this kind of music at Homecoming or any dance. Maybe in the car or in the store, but not at a high school dance. The student body could definitely file a form and have it approved, as long as it meets the requirements.
