Born Shane Michael Boose in early 2005, Sombr has become rapidly famous almost overnight.

Since his first debut in 2021, titled “nothing left to say”, the young new artist has gained tons of popularity all over the world. On December 27, 2024, he released his hit single “back to friends”, which has since accumulated over one billion listens on Spotify and was No. 1 on Top 40 Radio— mostly listened to in the following summer of 2025.

But this song was just the beginning; he continued to release more hit singles like “undressed” in March of 2025, “we never dated” in June 2025, and “12 to 12” in July of 2025.

And to seal the deal in Sombr’s big year of discography, he released his debut album “I Barely Know Her” in August 2025. The album has ten songs, including the aforementioned hits, and now has millions of listens with the new songs alone.

Also in August 2025, Sombr did a cover for i-D magazine, titled “Can Sombr Save Rock ‘n’ Roll?” So far, taking into consideration his millions of new generation fans and funky new sound, he just might do that.

Hitting the ground running, Sombr immediately released a new hit single on February 5, 2026, called “Homewrecker”. In just under a month, the song already has 64 million listens on Spotify, including about 2 million views on the music video released on YouTube.

Sombr received three nominations at the 2025 VMAs, including Best New Artist and Song of the Summer for “12 to 12”. He made a notable debut performance at the awards, showcasing his songs “Back to Friends” and “12 to 12”. Sombr won the Best Alternative Video for “Back to Friends,” marking a significant milestone in his career as it was his first win at the VMAs.

A combination of hypnotic melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Sombr’s music has a way of speaking to many different age groups– even if his music seems primarily assigned to the younger generation.
