If you ever wanted to know how it would feel to host a late-night radio show during a murder spree, Killer Frequency is the game for you. The game is developed by Team17, a horror puzzle game that was released in 2023, bringing players into the role of Forrest Nash, a radio show host trying to save callers from a masked killer called the “Whistling Man.”
What makes Killer Frequency stand out is the combination of old-school horror and interactive storytelling. You won’t be fighting monsters or exploring haunted houses, instead, you’ll solve puzzles and give advice over the phone to people whose lives are in danger. The voice acting and soundtrack really bring the story to life, making each tense phone call make it feel like you’re in the game.
The gameplay definitely reminded me of Firewatch or Oxenfree, where the focus is mainly on dialogue choices rather than action. Like those games, Killer Frequency relies on decision-making to build suspense. Compared to other Team17 titles such as The Escapists or Overcooked, this game takes a slower, more story approach, instead of other high-paced Team17 games.
However—the game isn’t perfect. Some of the puzzles are pretty simple, and the game will only take you about five hours to complete. It is a game of listening and thinking rather than action, which may not be everyone’s favorite preference of gameplay. But the short length is actually quite enjoyable, and it feels focused and not dragged out.
So, is Killer Frequency worth playing in 2025? Most definitely, especially if you’re a fan of horror with amazing storytelling. Even though it probably won’t be the scariest game you’ll ever play, it’s one of the most creative. If you like mystery, dark humor, and 80’s nostalgia, then Killer Frequency is still a game I highly recommend you play
