While it is commonly known that President Donald Trump has the most assassination attempts of any U.S. president in history, that doesn’t mean the hunting ceases.
His most famous incident, on July 13, 2024, was the attempt that got him shot in the ear at his campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. The then Republican Party candidate was wounded in his upper right ear by a 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, whose motive still remains unclear.
Crooks reportedly fired eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle from a rooftop overlooking the rally, both injuring Trump, killing a member of the audience, Corey Comperatore, and left two other members critically wounded.
After the shots rang out, the crowd burst into abrupt chaos, especially the Secret Service, who immediately flanked and covered Trump. At first engulfed by these bodyguards, Trump raised up with his fist in the air chanting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” while his face was doused in blood.
Trump arrived publicly for the first time two days afterward at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a bandage on his injured ear.
Later, after winning the election on November 5, 2024, Trump went golfing at the Trump International Golf Club at West Palm Beach with a friend. Law enforcement officials said that the golf course’s perimeter was not fully secured as Trump was not an incumbent president just yet. It was especially worse considering that the golf day was not a scheduled event.
While sweeping the sixth hole ahead of Trump for any potential threats, Secret Service agent Robert Fercano spotted 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, a roofer and Russo-Ukrainian War activist, aiming a rifle at Fercano from about 400 yards away.
Fercano fired four rounds toward Routh after spotting him, to which Routh abandoned his rifle and fled in a vehicle. Once the shots were fired, Trump was escorted off the premises by the Secret Service.
The golf course was put on lockdown, with no reported injuries for anyone. A witness saw Routh’s car fleeing the scene and reported it, and the FBI later detained Routh.
Routh’s motive was indeed, to kill the president.
Of the most recent events, most likely not the last, was the shooting at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) on April 25, 2026, in Washington D.C.

Gunshots were fired near the main security screening area, and the room full of guests all retreated under their tables about three whole seconds upon hearing said shots. What seemed like forever after the gunshots, the Secret Service finally decided to remove President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump out of the room, while other heavily protected and armed agents search the area and block the tables in which they sat.
Law enforcement officials identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, who was arrested near the screening area outside the banquet hall. One officer was hit while wearing a bulletproof vest and is expected to recover, while no other injuries were reported. Allen was popularly known for his anti-Trump content, and he referred to himself as the “Friendly Federal Assassin” as a self-given title. He admitted that he intended to target people connected to the administration, writing “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,” which was part of a manifesto sent by Allen to his family just minutes before he opened fire at the WHCD.
Former President Barack Obama posted on X in response: “Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy. It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice.”
There are currently only three official assassination attempts on President Trump, but given how extreme these circumstances have been so far, there is most likely going to be more occurrences, given his reputation for having more than enough people who dislike him and his agenda.
