Tate McRae’s new single “TIT FOR TAT” has quickly become one of the hottest songs in the world this year.
The single debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart and has made significant impacts on various music charts since its release on September 26, 2025.
On its first day, the song hit 1.87 million streams, reaching the Top 10 within the same week: number two on the U.S. charts, number five globally. It entered the Top 100 at number three, which was her third Top 10 hit on this chart.
Joining her other high-grossing songs, including her single “Just Keep Watching” for the F1 movie soundtrack in 2025 and “You Broke Me First” in 2020, it has quickly become a popular song that floods the internet on every platform.
The talent doesn’t pertain to this one song, though: this also includes her other albums as a whole. Since their release, her albums garner millions upon billions of streams in relatively short amounts of time. So Close to What (2025) at 137 million streams, Think Later (2023) at 688 million streams, I Used to Think I Could Fly (2022) at 15.1 billion streams, and the same goes for her other music, singles or albums.
Given these statistics, her talent and ear for making fantastic music is undoubtedly real. McRae is also widely known for her impressive dance techniques.
She began at the age of six, focusing on ballet— her mother a dance instructor. She trained at the YYC Dance Project where she honed her practices in contemporary, jazz, and ballet. She later gained prominence through her early dance training and participation in “So You Think You Can Dance”. This was the beginning of her career, then she started to incorporate her singing.
She began making music at a very young age, her first ever published song “One Day” at only 13 years old, building her skill quickly over the next nine years of her music career. With her illusive tunes and enchanting bridges, McRae’s music has not only raised the bar for the music industry and the expectations of future artists’ performances during shows, but she also has re-influenced good music taste in today’s youth. In fact, since her Miss Possessive world tour has entered the stratosphere, fans have begun referring to her as “this generation’s new Britney Spears”.
Of course, this is a bold statement to make. Britney Spears isn’t the easiest pop star to top. While die-hard fans like myself would agree, those who don’t prefer her music would say otherwise.
As an artist in a world full of haters, McRae isn’t exempt from those who dislike her music— especially the ones that insist she has a “baby voice” on Instagram comment sections. But the best part is that they don’t have to buy/listen to her music and they can go inform their mom about their car’s extended warranty once they leave her basement.
Ignoring said haters, McRae continues to focus on the positive and keeps releasing legendary music for those with good taste.
The cherry on top to McRae’s “So Close to What” album is her upcoming deluxe edition, including new songs “TIT FOR TAT”, “ANYTHING BUT LOVE”, “NOBODY’S GIRL”, “TRYING ON SHOES”, and “HORSESHOE”, releasing on November 21, 2025.
